Chief Joseph Middle School (Richland, WA) - 504 Wilson St between Jadwin Ave and Stevens Dr (enter from Stevens Dr)
Since development of all players (from beginner to most experienced) is a priority of the band, our practice schedule allows time for student pipers and drummers to play in the circle prior to the general band practice.
First and Third Tuesdays (and Fifth if there is one)
6:30-7:00 pm Student pipers and drummers on pipes and drums are in the band circle working on beginning marches. All pipers and drummers are welcome to play at this time. Focus is on basic band skills such as tuning, blowing for tone, strike-ins, cut-offs, roll-ins, watching the PM’s fingers, dealing with “the stare”, and ensemble playing. No individual lessons are taught on these nights.
7:00-8:30 pm Full band practice on pipes and drums.
Second and Fourth Tuesdays
6:15-7:00 pm Individual lessons on practice chanters and pads. All pipers and drummers that are available to teach will lend a hand providing student lessons.
7:00-8:30 pm Full band chanter and pad practice (pipe corps and drum corps separately for first half hour, then together for last hour).
For those wanting to know what’s required for learning the pipes and drums, please check out the Student Info page.
