About the Desert Thistle Pipe Band

The Desert Thistle Pipe Band is located in the Tri-Cities area of southeastern Washington state. Most members live in Benton City, Kennewick, Pasco, Richland, and West Richland. Other members travel from outside the greater Tri-Cities Metropolitan Area.

Our parade band currently consists of 10 pipers and 8 drummers. The competition band consists of 7 pipers and 6 drummers, and currently competes at a Grade III level.

The Desert Thistle Pipe Band is a non-profit organization and raises funds for instruments, accessories, and attire through performances at various events, venues, and competitions. If you would like to hire the band for your event, please
contact our band manager. The band also plays pro bono at community and civic events.

The band holds a
concert in late February or early March every year that features the pipe band, Irish and Scottish dancing, solo piping and drumming, and guest Celtic bands and solo performers.

Building and replenishing the band is a continuing process. If you already play the pipes or drums, and are interested in joining the band, visit our
contacts page to get in touch with our Pipe Major or Drum Sergeant.

If you’re wondering what it takes to get started learning the pipes and drums, visit the
Student Info page.
